Hi! This is Dan Again, and You Found My Secret Idea! Help Me Out?

Thanks for clicking the ad in today’s Now I Know. 🙂

I could use your help — and I hope to help you along the way.

The Gist:

  • I’ve been helping friends and former colleagues manage the interview process for the last few years. I like it and they’ve said it helped them land offers.
  • I want to do more of this. Ultimately, I want to do it as a paid consultancy, but for now, I’m doing it for free.
  • I need more people to help.

Interested? Email me at my personal email address, dan.lewis at gmail.com (obviously, replace the ” at ” with an at-sign.) Put something like “interview guide” in the subject so I know what it is.

(Please don’t email the regular Now I Know email address — I don’t check that often and I don’t want you to think I’m ignoring you.)

I’m not sure what I’ll send you yet, but that ambiguity is the price of helping me figure it out!!

Want more back story?

In 2022-2023, I interviewed for a lot of jobs — the business I was at was going through a massive organizational change and the writing was on the wall for me. So I was proactive, looking for my next step. As a result, I’ve interviewed for dozens of jobs at dozens of companies of all sizes, and, along the way, I took not-so-detailed notes about the interview process, what I did well, what I needed to do better, etc. And as a result, I have a deep understanding of the corporate America interview process and how to make it work for you.

I have a very incomplete guide to how to navigate (and succeed in) the interview process, and I’ve shared it with a few friends and friends-of-friends, and it’s almost universally appreciated. It helps people write their interview intro and fine-tune it, gives them guidance to craft responses to common interview questions that pivot the conversation to where you, the job seeker, want the conversation to go, and also has a couple of really interesting questions for you to ask the interviewer. That information is useful, but I think me working 1:1 with someone is more valuable. My thinking, right now, is to finish the guide and give it a decent design, give that away to whomever wants it, and then offer my time (for a fee) to anyone who wants to go deeper. As a professional Communications person and as a hobbyist storyteller through Now I Know, I should be good at helping others tell their professional story better, right?

That’s the theory, but I need proof points. So I’m hoping you’ll let me help you, for free, to help me refine this. And, if it works, hopefully you’ll be one of those proof points in the future. Interested? Email me at the address above!

Thanks,

Dan
